Converting the Inverted (a poem)

written by Joe J Thomas

While converting the inverted
When a comma was inserted
The professor took a step back and he paused
The result was so insulting
That he went to go consulting
With a colleague who just simple hemmed and hawed
There is something in this figure
That will simply zag or zig your
Mind into an itty bitty little loop
The scientists continued late
Their discourse did insinuate
The logic wrapped their brains up in a hoop
When the answer finally hit them
It was far too late to get them
To the publisher in time to be renowned
So they ended at an eatery
To imbibe and have some meatery
On the morrow it is likely they’ll rebound!

Would You Kill Baby Hitler?

Would You Kill Baby Hitler?

a poem by Joe J Thomas

Hitler Animals - Joe's Dump

Would you kill baby Hitler?
If you could go back in time.
Knowing what he might become.
Or would you give him love.
Care for him.
Educate him.
Raise him with a broadened perspective.
It may sound silly.
But these are the choices we face every day.
And what would happen if Hitler were a different person?
The people who wanted him.
Those who used him for their causes.
The ones who rode the wave of power.
And wanted to be superior to others.
Wouldn’t they all still be there?
And would the outcome really change?
There’s only one way to know.

Mooseferatu: Midnight of the Elk

Mooseferatu: Midnight of the Elk (Joe's Dump)

(an original winter’s poem by Joe J Thomas)

      Mooseferatu!

Gather round, my calves, and you shall hear
A chilling tale of dread and fear
When day turns to night and you hear a deep “Mooooooo”!
Outside in the dark roams Mooseferatu!

He walks through the bog with his antlers aglow
A frightening sight that few shall dare know
For those who aren’t careful, he jumps from the trees
They shout in sheer terror and fall to their knees

Above all he looms – seven feet at the shoulder
Just seeing his shadow will make you feel colder
The wings on his back, sharp fangs in his mouth
There’s no use in running to the north or the south

If lady luck stands by you this winter’s night
Perhaps you’ll escape the horrible sight
Some say he’s a myth, a legend or lore
They whisper it quietly while barring the door

So when you go out in winter’s cold chill
Be certain you are wary behind every hill
Keep to the highlands – don’t go down below
Or risk Mooseferatu’s dark mournful lowe!

Ode to Bretrum

Bendy and the Ink Machine: Bertrum Piedmont
The greatest theme park ever built
A lifelong dream for me
No, Mr Drew, you won’t succeed
My creation shall be free!

I’ll make your rides, oh, you’ll see
The mystery shall unfold
Deep in the basement’s where I hide
Dark, and dank, and cold

If you’re wondering where I’ve gone
I’m hiding in plain sight
Come fight me now! Bertie’s here!
I’ll give you such a fright…

One final turn will seal your fate
A darker end’s in store
For after spinning round and round
You all will scream for more!

*** SPOILERS!!! Bendy and the Ink Machine ***

(btw, I’m the voice of Bertrum Piedmont in “Bendy and the Ink Machine” 😉 )

What’s Wrong (with everyone else)?

What’s Wrong (with everyone else)?

Unaware.
That’s what’s wrong.
Unaware of others.
Of themselves.

Of their own needs, wants, drives.

Flaws and strengths.

Unaware of time…
And of time’s precious, fleeting nature.

Tragic.
Watching them led through life by those who are only slightly more aware.
Those with ill intent.

It’s time to wake the fuck up.

Own your life.
Own your future.

Become aware.

Maybe then you’ll stop bothering me.

~~~ end ~~~
Time Travel Poem
Time Travel Poem
by Joe J Thomas, age 54 (currently)
I had just come back from the past
When a guy showed up and asked
“What the hell is it you think that you’re doing?”
He was all covered in dust
So I told him I was just
Checking what my ancestors were brewing.
“That’s dangerous!”, he said
“You might kill your grandpa dead!”
“Or change the way the future will unfold!”
I said “Who are you to say”
“How I do things yesterday”
“Or where or when that I should come and go!”
“I’m your grandson”, he said to me
“And I’m here to set you free”
“From a life that’s bound by time and space and crap!”
“If you’ll only listen now”
“Of the where and why and how”
“We can exit from this time travel trap!”
“You’re crazy!”, I began
And with that I turned and ran
There was a gun in my desk across the room
“Don’t do it!”, he was pleading
But my shot had left him bleeding
He collapsed and warned about impending doom
“I’m not only your grandson”
“But your grandpa too, my son”
“This time travel has gotten out of hand”
He came back to stop my error
From this loopy, timey, terror
Things just didn’t work out how he’d planned
As he slowly slipped away
My hands began to fade
I’d cursed us both forever to repeat
The time and space went back
As it all faded to black
I returned to wh…
U-Boat Bunny
U-Boat Bunny
a post-Easter poem by Joe J Thomas
Happy Easter from U-Boat Bunny
Where does the bunny go when Easter time is done
When kids are finished playing and tired from the fun
He hippity hops along the grass and over to the beach
He gets into his submarine and dives down out of reach
The U-boat’s fueled by Easter grass
The ballast is jelly beans
The hull is made from eggshells
All neat and white and clean
The ship is manned by peeps, marshmallowy and sweet
They have little ears, eyes, and nose but none of them have feet
So now you know where bunny goes on all the other days
He’s sailing in his U-Boat way down below the waves
Motion and Stillness
a poem by Joe J Thomas
      Motion and Stillness
Sunlight moves to the Earth
Water moves from root to stem to leaf
Livestock move to graze.
Food is transported from farm to store to table.
Motion is life
And yet
When there is no motion, calm
Silence
Space
As the blank spaces define the letters on the page
The pauses say as much as the words
Stillness is essential
Balance is key
