Copyright, Copywrong?

*** Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, and I don’t claim to know the law. The following is just my personal experience in one area of copyright… Reader discretion is advised! ***

How is a major record label making money off of my song?

Well, if you do parodies, sooner or later someone’s gonna notice and claim copyright.

For me, that happened with a parody I did of Brad Paisley’s “Mr. Policeman”, and posted it on YouTube. Ironically, my parody is about Legal Disclaimers:

Copyright is a thorny issue, to be sure. I can understand both sides.

Conspiracy Theory: Conspiracy Theory

Conspiracy from the halls of power
Governments, Religions, Industries
They meet in secret
Secured in VPN tunneled chats
In person at clandestine locations
Guarded by muscle, money and technology
The powerful ones decide
Which Conspiracy Theory to foster
Keep the masses busy… Preoccupied
Angry at something, or someone else
Like jingling the keys in front of an infant
We watch, and talk, and argue
While they do whatever they want
And they get away with it
Because we are easily led
Conspiracy Theories
Terrorists, Vaccines, UFOs, Planetary Alignment
They push them out to the publicity machine
Like drug dealers to the junkies
And the truth is buried under a mountain of meaningless noise
This is my Conspiracy Theory Conspiracy Theory

Why I Don’t Watch Award Shows

Why I Don’t Watch Award Shows

The Oscars.
The Tonys.
The Golden Globes.

… and on, and on, and on…

I’m in the arts, so you’d think I’d watch at least a few of the award shows, right?
Nope.
Not a one.

Here’s why, in a nutshell:
I prefer “doing” to “watching”. I’d rather “be” than “observe”.

For me, watching an awards show is just too far removed from the real world:

Good, Fast, Cheap: A New Take

by Joe J Thomas

Good, Fast, Cheap - Pick 2
There’s an old project management saying that states: “Good, Fast, Cheap – Pick Two”.
The implication is that it is impossible to have a project that embodies all three qualities (good, fast and cheap).

Using this saying, we are faced with the following possibilities: Continue reading

Technology Rising, Quality Sinking

Technology Sinking Quality Ship

Technology…
It’s here to help.
It’s here to save us.
To make things better.

But as the technology becomes more and more prevalent in our daily lives, the quality of many industries, products and even people are on the decline.

It’s this relationship between the rise of technology and the sinking level of quality that this article will explore.

Chicken Measuring

The “Metric System” never quite caught on in the U.S. of A. And the “Imperial System” with it’s feet, yards and inches doesn’t make much intuitive sense either. Seems like every time someone wants to measure something, they come up with a new standard. Every news story has some tie-in to measuring:

Announcer:
“Just how deep is the ocean, Professor Doctor Person?”
Professor:
“Well if you can imagine 3 Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other…”

Read My Blog!

Attention!

Blog. Blogging. Blogger.

These words didn’t even exist 20 years ago. And now they seem to dominate the online landscape. What started as a simple “Web Log” has turned into so much more. News, opinion, diaries, reviews, promotions, etc. But what does it all mean? And what’s the purpose of any individual blog?
